A fanfic.

Miss Hallelujah aka Magical Harkow wanted me to write a fanfic. So here. Blame her.

Pre-Dawn by @sarahcoldheart

The breeze was cool against her skin as she stood behind the tinkerer. There were no lamps nor torches as he worked. The moon light providing the only illumination as she watched the wooden planks and steel bars being lifted by metallic beings. The tinkerer stopped his work and dropped the control device to the soft grass.

He turned around and looked at her. Brass and iron. He wore a helmet as he worked and she knew that it was not just for safety purposes.

“Robert, I know what you are,” she whispered.

His face was unreadable behind the helmet but she knew behind it all, was a caring soul.

“Anna, say it. Say it out loud,” his deep voice rumbled.

She took a deep breath as she moved closer to him, looking up.

“A bird. You’re a bird!” she whispered harshly.

He tore off his helmet, tossing it behind him and leaned close angrily but almost as if he was trying to restrain himself.

“These feathers, these feathers are of a killer’s! And you’re like my brand of heroin… I want to hit on you,” he said in restrained anguish.

“I know. But you’re so nice to me and yet the village shuns you except when they need your help! This is not fair!” she cried out.

Robert stroked her green smooth skin as he looked at her glistening eyes.

“It is fair, ma petite cochon. I built weapons in my lifetime, hurting others for a profit! I built The Catapult, ma petite! The Catapult! And now this is the only way to redeem myself. Let the village shun me even if they think I am just the Iron Stranger. Only you know that I am a bird. A bird who wishes to save you from the heartache of seeing your brothers perish,” he said.

“Oh Robert!” she cried, touched by his words.

“So you see ma petite, this must be done,” he said, putting on his helmet once more.

“Oh, oh, oh Robeeeert!” she cried once more.

“Au revoir,” he whispered, picking up the control device on the ground.

“Robeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeert,” she wailed.

“Bye now,” he said.

The metallic beings picked him up and he travelled back into the forest with Anna staring at his retreating form from her spot.

“We’ll be together one day,” she vowed.
